Zion- Mount Carmel Tunnel
The iconic Zion- Mount Carmel Tunnel is a 1.1 mile stretch of highway that provides access from the Zion area to other national parks including Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon. It was built between 1920-1930 and is recognized as a historic tunnel with scenic views at the top after an 800 foot elevation gain. Important Information:
- The tunnel is designed for driving through only. Please do not stop your car in the tunnel or try to walk in the tunnel.
- There is an entrance fee into Zion National Park. Check out this website for details.
- Any vehicle that is 7’10” in width and/or 11’4” in height or larger must buy a separate tunnel permit at the entrance for $15.
- The tunnel is significant for skill-level, material usage, design, and engineering and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
