Anasazi Ridge Petroglyphs

If you’re into rock art, the Anasazi Ridge Petroglyphs near St. George are a must-see. This easy hike takes you to the top of a small hill, where you’ll find basalt boulders covered in hundreds of petroglyphs. The rock art ranges from small glyphs and geometric shapes to large images of bighorn sheep.

Getting There:
- From St. George: Head to Santa Clara on Sunset Blvd. In Santa Clara, this road becomes Old Highway 91. Follow it toward Ivins, UT. About 2.8 miles from Santa Clara, look for the Anasazi Valley Trailhead sign on the left. Follow the road for 0.4 miles to a large parking area with a trailhead and a pit toilet.
Trail Directions:
- Starting Point: From the trailhead, follow the path as it gradually climbs to the ridge.
- Farmstead: At the crest, turn right to visit the ancient farmstead.
- Rock Art:
- Option 1: Go due south up the steeper trail for the shortest route to the petroglyphs.
- Option 2: Follow the main path to the left, which takes a few zig-zags before reaching the summit and rock art.
Tips for Your Visit:
- Watch your step to avoid walking on the petroglyphs carved into ground boulders.
- Explore the area to the west and among the boulders for more rock art.
- Return the same way you came.
