Vermilion Cliffs National Monument
Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is home to 280,000 acres of unspoiled terrain with sweeping vistas, geological wonders, and incredible hiking trails. Situated between Kaibab National Forest and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the monument is home to the endangered California Condor and draws visitors from all over the world for the desert landscape and remote sanctuary. Vermilion Cliffs is home to some of the most popular attractions in Northern Arizona– The Wave, Buckskin Gulch, and White Pocket. Most visitors choose to stay in Marble Canyon, but many stay in Page. The drive along Highway 89A is spectacular and incredibly scenic.

Important Information:
- The monument is vast and remote– there is no visitor center.
- The roads in the monument are generally unmarked and rugged. A high clearance, 4wd vehicle is highly recommended. Make sure you have a vehicle that is appropriate for rugged terrain and always have a spare tire and extra fuel. If you get stuck on BLM lands, it will likely take a while to contact anyone.
- There are two campgrounds near the monument: Stateline and White Horse Campground.
- There are numerous tour agencies in both Kanab and Page that offer guided tours to various locations throughout the monument.
- Coyote Buttes (The Wave) and other hikes require a permit obtained through a lottery system. Visit the Paria Contact Station on Highway 89 for more information or the BLM Visitor Center in Kanab.
- Bring plenty of water and snacks while visiting. There aren’t any immediate options for food and water.
- There is little to no cell phone reception throughout the majority of the monument.
- Other than the permits required for specific trails, there are no fees for entrance into the monument.
